Acne Management

If your acne makes you feel less confident, you’re not alone. It’s difficult for anyone to feel relaxed and confident when they “don’t feel comfortable in their own skin”. The good news is that you don't have to live with acne - or at least, the visible breakouts.  The key is to learn all you can about this chronic skin disease, so you can stay one step ahead of it.  The best weapon you have against acne is knowledge and the Le Mani acne protocol.

Le Mani's Approach to Acne - A Partnership

We, at Le Mani, have developed an acne treatment protocol that will show significant improvement in your acne in approximately 12 weeks.

We utilize pharmaceutical grade home-care products that are customized for your type of acne and skin condition. Our products contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, triclosan, alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic and lactic, Retinol (Vit A serums) and sulfur among many others.

This very specific homecare, combined with our in-house acne treatment series (scheduled two weekly) facilitates clear skin and gets rid of pimples and blemishes.

We will educate you on the factors that exacerbate your acne and give you information on lifestyle adjustments you can make to minimize acne formation.

We partner with you and coach you through the process of rediscovering the calm healthy skin you were meant to have –  with your full participation we can be successful!

Why is it Important to Have a Spa Treatment Every Other Week?

Each spa visit will focus on what the skin needs at the time of treatment. Sometimes the skin will need more hydration, other times it will need more anti-bacterial and/or anti-inflammatory action. It is very important for us to assess how your skin is reacting to your home-care regimen.

We want to make sure that your home-care is not too strong and irritating.  We want to achieve that balance between helping you get rid of the acne as fast as possible without overly irritating and dehydrating your skin.  Consequently, we often change how you use your homecare to stay ahead of your ability to adapt to skin care products.

In addition, during your regular sessions we:

  • Exfoliate the skin so that home-care product can penetrate the pore more easily.
  • Hydrate the skin so that the skin is receptive to your home-care regimen. The products also tend to dry out the skin somewhat as you are getting used to them.
  • Extract existing acne impactions.
  • Kill acne bacteria inside the pore.

Please note: If your condition warrants it, a weekly peel may be prescribed (in a series).  In certain cases, this makes an incredible difference in the skin almost immediately.

A Word About Acne Scarring

Often when our clients talk about their acne “scarring”, what they really mean is the dark spots left over from an acne breakout. This is not “scarring”, but actually “post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation”. PIH develops when a wound, rash, pimple, or other stimuli like picking at your acne lesions causes skin inflammation, which triggers the skin to produce too much melanin (the protein in the skin that gives the skin its color). The excess melanin darkens and discolors the wounded area. This discoloration remains even after the wound or rash has healed.

PIH is very common among acne sufferers. It can occur in all skin types, although it is more common in darker skin tones.  Luckily, PIH is not a true scar and therefore can be treated in the Spa quite effectively.

The homecare that we give our acne clients not only addresses acne but starts the process of lifting the unwanted hyperpigmentation left from acne lesions. Some of the active ingredients we use include mandelic acid, lactic acid, hydroquinone, kojic acid, vitamin c and azelaic.

We use chemical peel solutions in our acne treatments that are in various strengths and ingredients to not only help with acne clearing but lift the dark spots as well. These corrective peel ingredients include trichloracetic acid (TCA), mandelic acid, lactic acid, kojic and azelaic acid. Used in conjunction with a consistent home-care regimen, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation will significantly decrease over time.

The acne usually goes away first before the redness or the darker spots go away. It usually takes another few months for the dark spots or redness to minimize.

WSE on Citysearch says:

"I'd never had a facial before going to Le Mani. I have adult acne and have seen a dermatologist for years. All he gave me was a face cream that faded and stained my clothes. At Le Mani, they taught me proper skin care and offered skin care products that are out of this world, including the Environ product line which is amazing. I have never felt better about my face. They also offer a teen skin care facial which I bought for my teenage son. A bonus is a gourmet chocolate shop just across the street and Starbucks a few stores away. It's like a mini vacation."

Serena J on Citysearch says:

"I cannot say enough good things about the facials at Le Mani. Gail really knows what she is doing. She has treated my problem skin for years, through my teenage years right up until pregnancy and beyond. She is the only person I would trust with my skin besides my dermatologist. Unlike other places she doesn't just give a "froo-froo facial" but actually evaluates your skin problems and treats the specific conditions you have. It is personalized, customized treatment from someone who REALLY knows what they are doing which is hard to find in this business!"
